1. For people who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words:
Kitschy, Edgy, Virtuous, Magnetic, Sophisticated.
2. What can people expect from your live show?
People can expect me to talk way, way, WAY too much. People can expect my sarcasm to get in the way of my performance and ability to connect with an audience. People can expect me to be hostile and utterly cruel. The first part of what I said is true. People can expect me to lie, as proven by this instance.
3. What do you want people to know about your band?
I’d like people to know that I am your average, awkward, law-abiding human being. All of my songs have emerged from both the day to day, and from the life-altering. I take music extremely seriously and believe it sincerely fuels our world. I should perhaps take life this seriously, but unfortunately do not.
4. If you could open for any touring artist today, who would it be?
I would love to open for Andrew Bird. I think he is talented and weird beyond all reason. I’d like to learn some of his whistling technique as well. I would like to steal his magical powers and claim them as my own.
5. What would you say is your biggest achievement/accomplishment as an artist/band?
I am extremely proud of the fact that three of my songs have been featured on prime time Television series – “Private Practice,” “90210,” and “One Tree Hill.”
6. What artists do you plan to check out at INDIE WEEK?
I’d really like to see The Cutaways. I’ve checked out their music online and they seem really interesting and that they would put on a great show.
7. What do you like more – playing festivals or individual shows?
I like them both equally. I love festivals because of all the amazing opportunities to see other bands and artist perform. As long as people are drinking and having fun, it feels comfortable to play music to any audience.
8. How did you hear about INDIE WEEK?
Sonicbids!
9. What are the best and worst things about your local music scene?
New York is a fantastic place to play music and watch live music. Although it’s a big city, it feels like a tight and sincere musical community. I suppose the only downside is that there is TOO much music relative to how much time there actually is.
10. Any advice for indie bands just starting out?
I suppose the only thing one can do is rehearse a lot, try to record a lot, and make as many connections as possible because you never know where one moment might lead you.
Any last comments?
